Honda Push Mowers may be started using either the automatic or manual starting procedure, depending on the model of the mower. Honda Push Mowers may include an automatic starter or you may own a model that uses the only the manual starting method.
The automatic starter on the Honda Push Mower makes starting the mower fast and easy. However, if the mower is not equipped with an automatic starter, start the mower using the manual procedure.
Start the Honda Push Mower Using the Automatic Starter
1.) Flip the “Blade Control” lever into the “Release” position.
2.) Adjust the “Drive Clutch” lever into the “Release” position. Adjusting the two levers will ensure that the blade does not spin and the mower does not move during the starting procedure.
3.) Adjust the “Throttle” lever to the “Choke” setting. Moving the “Throttle” lever into the “Choke” position allows the engine to start the warm-up process.
4.) Adjust the “Engine” switch to the “Start” setting. Hold the switch in place until the engine starts up. The engine should start within five seconds. If the engine does not start, wait ten seconds and then press and hold the “Engine” switch once again.
5.) Let the engine run for three minutes to warm up.
6.) Move the “Throttle” lever to the “Fast” setting to mow or set the “Throttle” lever to the “Slow” setting to allow the mower to idle.
7.) Push the mower to mow the grass while the “Throttle” lever is in the “Fast” position.
Manually Start the Honda Push Mower
1.) Flip the “Blade Control” lever into the “Release” position.
2.) Adjust the “Drive Clutch” lever into the “Release” position. Adjusting the two levers will ensure that the blade does not spin and the mower does not move during the starting procedure.
3.) Adjust the “Throttle” lever to the “Choke” setting. Moving the “Throttle” lever into the “Choke” position allows the engine to start the warm-up process.
4.) Put your foot onto the deck step of the mower to maintain balance as you pull the starter cord.
5.) Gently pull the starter cord until you feel resistance in the cord.
6.) Yank the cord outward to start the mower engine. Allow the cord to recoil.
7.) Repeat yanking the cord outward and allowing the cord to recoil until the engine starts up.
8.) Let the engine run for three minutes to warm up.
9.) Move the “Throttle” lever to the “Fast” setting to mow or set the “Throttle” lever to the “Slow” setting to allow the mower to idle.
10.) Push the mower to mow the grass while the “Throttle” lever is in the “Fast” position.
Honda Push Mower Fuel Recommendations
* Avoid using gasoline that contains more than 10% ethanol in the Honda Push Mower.
Gasoline with higher levels of ethanol is more corrosive and may attract water. Water collected in the gas tank may cause the engine to have problems starting or running. Water will also damage the mower’s fuel system.
* Store gasoline for the mower in a clean plastic gas container.
Close the gas container’s vent and store the container in a dark area, away from direct sunlight. If the gas remains in the container for more than three months, add a fuel stabilizer when you add gas to the container. Gasoline tends to deteriorate when exposed to sunlight. Avoid metal gas containers for your mower fuel because metal gas containers will contaminate the mower’s fuel system with rust and metallic debris.
* Maintain the mower’s air filter.
Making sure the air filter is clean will make sure that dirt and debris does not get into the mower’s carburetor. Check the air filter before each use of the mower.
* Turn the “Fuel” lever to the “Off” position when the mower is not in use.
Fill the tank after each use to prevent air from staying inside the tank. Air promotes the deterioration of the fuel inside the tank.
* Add fuel stabilizer if you do not intend to mow for more than three weeks.
Fuel in the mower will deteriorate when it sits in the system for an extended period of time. When the fuel deteriorates, the mower will be hard to start and will not run well.
Proper maintenance and following fuel recommendations for your Honda Push Mower will keep your mower in top running condition. When you store your mower for the season, drain the remaining fuel from the mower by starting the mower and moving the “Fuel” lever into the “Off” position. Allow the mower to use all gas in the system before storage.
